Gary Johnson Is Returning to Politics

Gary Johnson, the two-term Republican governor of New Mexico and twice nominated Libertarian Party presidential contender, is making his return to politics this Summer after leading the Libertarian Party to a historic record high voter turnout of over 4 million votes in 2016.Johnson’s campaign more than quadrupled the highest vote total the Libertarian Party had ever received for a presidential nominee, while the Republican and Democratic Parties both stalled at a twenty-year low. That result was achieved with 1/1000th of the money the two major political parties spent.Gary Johnson issued a statement to the libertarian magazine Reason, in which he announced his plans to mobilize “the largest

Bug Out Bag Repacking

For the sake of simplicity I try to have a minimal amount of systems. EDC, my fighting load which is layered and somewhat modular and my bug out bag. The heavy bug out set up is not really formed into a system per se. That is on my to do list.My bug out bag lives in the back of my jeep. That does a few things for me. First it removes the need for an additional ‘get home bag’ which would be yet another system to fill with redundant gear and keep track of. Second and maybe more importantly it gets my BOB out …

Here I am….

Hmmm, I really thought I’d written something here since October, but apparently I haven’t, shame on me 🙂 So here I am, back again, let me tell you what has been going on since Oct., that job I was working and LOVED, well it has fizzled, turns out there isn’t enough work for 2 people in this area, although the 2 of us seemed to be doing just fine, apparently the boss’ boss doesn’t agree. Another Monster Quibcag Dump, With Commentary

this quibcg is a good reminder (tho perhaps rather bluntly put) that a policy of shutting up and listening and observing in general) can be a very fruitful use of one’s time. The illustration is a Lucky Star (????? Raki?Suta) character who illustrates the principle of duality with the two-finger gesture, very popular in Japan.Harleigh Kyson is quoted in this one to make us all aware that there can be too much of a good thing. This is important to remember, especially in our era, when many seem to think that there can’t be too much of a bad thing. Illustraition is Hatsune Miku ( ????), sometimes referred to as Miku Hatsune. cooking with her friend. And …

Never leave full batteries

Hot under the collar I planned to install batteries to backup to the rooftop PV system and for years have had misleading advice from many sources. I always thought I could simply add a whole heap of batteries and then if there was a power outage I could switch to the batteries. But there are two reasons why this is not so. One is that in the event of an outage the system has to protect power workers who are fixing the lines. another reason was explained by an electrician (Tom) from Caloundra who phoned and educated me on batteries for home use: There are two types of systems, full off the grid where the mains power is cut from the home…

The Way Marxists Think

Sometimes when I am lacking in the level of initiative and motivation I need to sustain to achieve all my goals short term and long range, I go onto message forums and Facebook groups and join in some debates with Marxists and socialists to get my head right.Just to think, if I keep staying unmotivated and uninspired long enough, my mind could atrophy so badly I end up like one of these blighted souls! It’s a real gut check.Well recently some one started off a debate asking for some Marxists to justify their belief that wage labor and the employer-employee relationship are inherently exploitative. One happily…

The USS Liberty Five Decades Later

Many years ago, I was discussing the six-day war with a young Jewish college student, and he remarked:I wish the war had lasted longer so we could have killed more Arabs. How do you like that ‘we’? Clearly, he identified with Israelis considerably more than with Americans, and that seems to be the case with far too many American Jews. Somehow, I don’t think he ever got around to joining the US Armed Forces to help out in Vietnam. He would probably have been self-righteously opposed to that war.Chances are good that even if you’ve been reading this blog for awhile that …

It’s solar, what could possibly go wrong?

When you are doing your own solar system, the key words here are “doing your own”, you will have to be in charge of troubleshooting if things go wrong. Sometimes, often you can recognize there is a problem but can’t quite figure out what or where the problem is. You test each separate component and each of them seems to be working, but altogether there is a problem somewhere and it’s frustrating. I am the unofficial “Geek Squad” tech person in my neighborhood, I can’t tell you how many times I have been working on a computer, taking everything apart, putting it back together and have it work, and I have no idea …

Good Stuff By The USA Today: How long can humans live?

Last year, a trio of New York researchers claimed humans had already lived as long as they possibly could.About 115 years, said Albert Einstein College of Medicine researchers, that’s the maximum human lifespan. Now a group of Canadian researchers challenges that assertion, saying its possible human existence may be boundless.”It does not mean that we know there is no limit. But because we can detect no limit it is possible that indeed there is no limit,” said McGill University biologist Siegfried Hekimi. “Average human life span keeps increasing dramatically and maximum human lifespan seems to follow. I see no statistical or demonstrated biological reason how we would know that this must stop.”-USA Today, How long can

Showering felt so good today!

When one lives off grid, you are generally your own fix it person, not always, but often. That is certainly true for us, we designed, built and maintain our off grid system, all the utilities that would normally be in the purview of the utility companies or a commercial repair service company, we take care of ourselves. One of the big things we take care of has to do with our water system. When we first moved out here, before our water system was really set up, I would walk to my neighbor’s house to collect 3 gallons of water per day, why 3 gallons you ask? Simple, it’s how many empty one gallon water containers …

Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Latest Scandal: A Case for Impeachment?

As the corruption scandal swirling around Wasserman Schultz’s IT staffers unfolds, each new development is more bizarre — and incriminating — than the last. And it looks like some rogue IT staffers are holding dozens of Congress members hostage by blackmailing them with their own emails. That must be why this family of five Pakistan IT staffers, who are under criminal investigation for stealing sensitive congressional data, have been paid millions of dollars since 2010 for mostly no-show jobs. What is going on here?Read all the details in my latestarticle at The Independent Voter Network.

Battery costs plummet

Cost of EVs and battery costs (%) – 2016-2030 (BNEF)Huge advances aimed at the Electric vehicle market are slashing battery costs, changing the way the power grid works and bringing benefits to off-grid communities and industries. As the world prepares to spend trillions on new renewable energy installations, the cost of storing power is plummeting. Battery costs are the biggest single obstacle to the potential for living and working off the grid, because reliable power storage has been the missing element until now. In its latest annual report released this week, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) forecasts trillions of investment in renewable energy worldwide in the next 10 years. The need to store renewable energy (along with the coming boom…
