Winchester Introduces 3,000 fps Rimfire Cartridge

Winchester officially announced the .17 Winchester Super Magnum cartridge today, and it does appear to be the fastest and most powerful rimfire cartridge ever. Two flavors have been announced so far; a 20-grain bullet reaching 3,000 feet per second, and a 25-grain bullet traveling at 2,600 feet per second. Muzzle energy on the 20-grain loading is rated at 400 foot pounds, with the slower 25-grain loading measuring 375 foot pounds. By comparison a standard 115 grain 9mm Luger round generates around 330 foot pounds of muzzle energy, so this sort of performance from a rimfire is a true breakthrough. Case capacity exceeds any previous rimfire caliber, and the latest generation ballistic tipped bullets will be utilized immediately in factory loadings. Suddenly, it is realistic to score a humane kill on a …

Magtech Ammunition – New for 2013

Brazilian ammo maker Magtech Ammunition has a few new products that will debut in the coming year.  Among them are lines of duty ammunition for law enforcement. The exact details have not yet been released, but there will be two new lines aimed at the police market.  The first will be a line of sniper ammo.  Presumably, this ammunition will focus on the most common law enforcement sniper rifle round used in the United States:  the .308 Winchester. It has long been an article of faith that the best precision rifle bullet in .308 for law enforcement has been the Sierra 168 grain Match King boat tail hollow point (BTHP).  For many police departments, the preferred load has been the Federal Gold Medal.  Another popular choice has been the …

Women’s Outdoor and Shooting Industry Dinner (SHOT Show)

The event organizer was very unhappy with me that I posted about this event. I thought it was a public event, it apparently is not and so I have removed the invite. I was not trying to be rude or disrespectful, just doing my best to publicize a new event on the most read gun blog online.

RIP: John Noveske of Noveske Rifleworks

It saddens me to report that John Noveske, of Noveske Rifleworks out of Oregon, was killed in a car accident the night of Friday, January 4th. Official statement from the Noveske Facebook page: Noveske Rifleworks would ask you to remember the passing of our founder, John Noveske, who died Friday, January 4th 2013 in an automobile accident. John planned for all eventualities, and wanted to ensure any changes would be as seamless as possible for our customers, dealers, suppliers, employees and friends. While this will be a trying time, we do not expect a change in the day to day operations of Noveske Rifleworks. We…

Quote of the Day – Empathy

“What kind of empathetic people exploit the occasion of murdered children and a distraught public as the proper time to ask for support of their agenda?”- Howard NemerovHoward asks a great question here at the end of his excellent piece. The answer? People who have no empathy for those murdered. Anti-gun politicians like Feinstein, Cuomo and their ilk do not care one bit about those killed. They only care about two things. 1. Doing what is politically expedient so that they can continue to hold power. 2. Disarming their constituents.

Gun Control in New York

So a crazy guy in upstate New York sets his house ablaze, lures firefighters there, then ambushes them. The response is the usual. Ban the guns! Ban the guns! Ban the Guns! they say. What the article doesn’t mention is that the murderer, William Spengler was a convicted felon. He bludgeoned his grandmother to death with a hammer back in 1981.Oh, and he said this,”I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best, killing people.”Evil folks. Evil. You cannot stop a man like this with more laws. He could have methodically set fire to every house in the neighborhood, and …

Not just NO, but HELL NO

Police doing walking patrols in SWAT gear with AR-15’s around their necks to “take back the streets?” Oh hell no. The militarization of the cops is already bad enough in this country. And frankly, if I can’t walk down the street OC’ing my AR-15 without it being a huge issue then the cops sure as hell shouldn’t be able to do it.”Police are going to be in SWAT gear and have AR-15s around their neck,” Stovall said. “If you’re out walking, we’re going to stop you, ask why you’re out walking, check for your ID……They may not be doing anything but walking their dog,” “But they’re going to have to prove it.”And, he says, “We’re going to do…

Quote of the Day – National Conversation

“Have you ever tried to reason with a child in the middle of a full-blown, red in the face, snot coming out of their nose, gasping for air crying fit?Yeah, well welcome to the national conversation on gun control.”-BredaThat has to be one of the most apt descriptions of the kind of people were up against that I’ve heard in a long time. People React to Calls for Bans

Innocent children get murdered by a madman who broke a TON of laws, despicable, blooddancing politicians and media types gleefully exploit it to push for more gun control………and the rest of America reacts. As Rick over at Traction-Control notes,”At 5:30 AM I showed 9,330 units on hand, when the order was received (at 5:00 PM) the quantity available was zero. My distributor reported over 70,000 Magpul PMags were sold last weekend alone.”Almost 10,000 Magpul PMags sold in 12 hours, 70,000 sold in one weekend. Not only that, but I was checking out Aimsurplus last night and they were wiped out of most everything. .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 9mm, 7…
